Visa & Residence Permit Information
If you are planning to study at Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKÜ) through the Erasmus+ program, you must ensure you have the correct legal status to enter and stay in Türkiye.
1. Before Arrival: Student Visa
Most international students (depending on their nationality) are required to obtain a Student Visa before entering Türkiye.
-
Application: You should apply to the nearest Turkish Embassy or Consulate in your home country as soon as you receive your official Letter of Acceptance from HKÜ.
-
Required Documents: Generally includes your passport (valid for at least 6 months), biometric photos, the HKÜ acceptance letter, proof of financial means, and travel insurance.
-
Visa Exemptions: Some nationalities may enter with a National ID or under visa-free regimes for short stays; however, since your study period will exceed 90 days, obtaining a Student Visa is highly recommended to simplify your residence permit application later.
2. After Arrival: Student Residence Permit (İkamet İzni)
All Erasmus students staying in Türkiye for more than 90 days must apply for a Student Residence Permit within 30 days of their arrival.
-
Online Application: The process starts at the e-ikamet website. You must fill out the form to schedule an appointment with the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management (İl Göç İdaresi).
-
The Appointment: You will need to bring a “Student Certificate” (Öğrenci Belgesi), which you will receive from HKÜ after your registration, along with proof of health insurance and your address in Türkiye.
-
Validity: Your residence permit will be valid for the duration of your Erasmus mobility. Once you have this card, you can enter and exit Türkiye without a visa.
3. Health Insurance
A valid health insurance policy is mandatory for the residence permit application.
-
It must cover the entire duration of your stay.
-
The policy must meet the minimum coverage criteria set by the Turkish Migration Management. Many students choose to purchase a local policy upon arrival in Türkiye to ensure it meets all legal requirements.
🚩 Important Reminders
-
Do not enter on a Tourist Visa: You cannot officially study or apply for a student residence permit if you enter as a tourist (unless your nationality has a specific bilateral agreement).
-
Passport Validity: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 60 days beyond the expiry date of the visa or residence permit you are seeking.
-
Address Registration: You must provide a valid address (dormitory, guest house, or rental) during your permit application.
